2017 Mayors Fitness Challenge


Sign up begins April 4, 2017!

Please join us as North Adams challenges Pittsfield to make the 2 cities a healthy place to live, work, play and raise a family! This 10-week challenge will encourage and motivate you to move more, be mindful of what you eat and work to improve your overall health.

Individual or Team Challenge

Sign up as an individual or a team. Options for a team include signing up as a family, neighborhood, place of work, or school. There is a maximum of 10 people per team. The team and individual that achieves the highest number of points in both cities will earn a prize!

Point System

Each participant will receive one point for:

  • One cup serving of vegetables
  • One cup serving of fruit
  • Every 8 ounces of water consumed
  • Each participant will receive 2 points
    every 1/2 hour physical act completed
  • There will be opportunity to earn bonus
    during the challenge

Physical Activity and Nutritional Calendars

Each participant will receive a calendar providing a variety of options to be physically active and nutritional opportunities to help build points. These calendars will also be available on the North Adams Mayor’s Fitness Challenge Facebook page and the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition web site www.nbccoalition.org/, and the Be Well Berkshires web site www.bewellberkshires.org

Congratulations! You have survived another Berkshire County winter! After a season of spending more time indoors and eating heavy food to stay warm, are you ready to “spring” into health?

Be Well Berkshires in partnership with Healthy Pittsfield has been hard at work planning for the second annual Berkshire Mayor’s Fitness Challenge. The objective of this 10 week challenge is to encourage and motivate the community to move more, be mindful of what they eat, and work towards improving overall health. For the second year in a row, Mayor Alcombright of North Adams has challenged the city of Pittsfield to compete for health; which city is the healthiest place to live, work, play and raise a family. This year Mayor Tyer gladly accepted the challenge!

The basics:

Individual or Team Challenge

  • Sign up as an individual or
  • Sign up as a team (Ex. Neighborhood Team, Work Site Team, etc.)
  • Maximum of 10 people per team
  • Prizes awarded for highest scoring team and individual, duo, senior, and teen

Point System to Eat Better and Move More

  • Each participant will track his/her points daily. One point will be received for every:
    • One ½ cup serving of vegetables
    • One ½ cup serving of fruit
    • 8ozs. of water consumed
    • And 2 points for every ½ hour or physical activity
  • There will be many opportunities to earn bonus points as well!

Building on last years success, the Berkshire Mayor’s Fitness Challenge promises to be bigger and better in 2016. You can look forward to weekly themes, a Healthy Dining Restaurant week, more free classes from local fitness professionals, exciting and fun bonus point opportunities, and a mobile friendly website for registration and for tracking your points.
